Skipton Market

About The Market

Skipton Market

Skipton Market is a unique outdoor market.

It’s history dates to medieval times, when a royal charter granted consent to The Lord of the Honour of Skipton Castle to hold a fair on Skipton High Street. The Market Authority, under the provisions of the Food Act 1984, is Skipton Town Council who administer the Market on behalf of Skipton Castle, the owners of the Market Charter.

This royal charter consent still holds true today and the Market is open every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the year, with occasional market days added particularly on the approach to Christmas.

Market opening times are generally 9am to 4.30pm.

We open (much) earlier on certain market days when you can visit our Fishmonger, Cheesemonger and, Fruit & Vegetable stalls.

Our Market stalls and pitches are located on the cobbled area, known as setts between the main road and the footpaths. Skipton Market is an integral part of the town centre shopping experience, operating directly alongside the main High Street shops.

We also offer a Monday incentive scheme for any new trader who wishes to stand on Skipton Market and get a taste of life on our Market. This scheme entitles new traders to stand on the Market for eight free, consecutive Mondays, on a council run pitch. In addition, 3m x 3m gazebos, weights and tables may be available upon request and are free of charge.

Skipton Town Council welcomes applications from traders to stand on our famous, award-winning, Skipton Market.

For further information please contact Skipton Town Council on 01756 700553 and ask to speak to a member of the Market Team who will be happy to help.
