Christmas Lights

The Town Council funds the provision of the Town's annual Christmas Lights, including arranging the purchase/leasing, installation and dismantling of the lights each year. The Council also arranges the installation of the Christmas tree outside the Town Hall.

Working with the relevant Church Fabric Committees, the council maintains churchyards at Holy Trinity and Christ Church - together with the Raikes Road Closed Burial Ground

Civic Events & Functions

The Town Council provides direct support, and assists in the running of, Remembrance Day and other memorial parades within the town, helps fund and promote Skipton In Bloom - and organises events on behalf of the Town Mayoralty.

Community Grants & Funding

An annual Community Grants scheme provides financial support to a large number of community groups and non profit-making organisations. Grants are also made to support festivals and events - and the Town Council provides core funding to some key organisations in the voluntary sector.

Parks and Open Spaces

Skipton Town Council is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of a number of open spaces within the Town, looking after general grounds maintenance, upkeep and grass cutting.

Skipton Town Council maintains children's play areas, playgrounds and facilities across the Town. It works within the local community to provide appropriate equipment - and ensures all the sites are safe and well-maintained.

Planning Recommendations

The Town Council is a statutory consultee on all planning applications submitted within the Parish of Skipton. It takes an active interest in all aspects of the Town - and makes recommendations to the Planning Authority.

Public Conveniences

Skipton Town Council currently manages the public conveniences at Coach Street Car Park in Skipton and have started discussions with Craven District Council with a view to managing all public toilet provision in the town.

The Council provides and maintains a range of public seating located in public areas across the town. It considers requests for additional seating, together with requests for memorial benches and the dedication of existing benches and seating.

Town Mayor and Town Crier

The Town Council supports the position of Town Mayor, an important part of the Town's Civic pride and heritage. We also support the ceremonial position of Town Crier.

Town Twinning

Skipton is twinned with the Bavarian town of Simbach in Germany and the town of Erquinghem-Lys in France - and strong civic and educational links are maintained the two towns.
